Bio

From the chaotic streets of Peru here come The Spanish Flies, a high energy power pop / psychedelic rock band strongly influenced by electric pop melodies and powerful guitar riffs.

ORIGINS: Founding member, Fel Gamarra, is the heart & soul of the band that is behind all aspects of the creative process from the music, lyrics and image. Strongly influenced by latin, tropic, ocean vibes and pop melodies, Fel tries to find answers and escape the cold climate through his unwavering passion in music. Originally from Peru, Gamarra moved to the winter city of Edmonton, Canada in 2014 and brought his music & image to life as The Spanish Flies with Erik Escobar on bass, Evan van Ramshorst on guitar and Izaac Middleton on drums.

Since gracing the stage, The Spanish Flies have had the opportunity to perform at a variety of prominent events including Up + Downtown Festival, Heart of the City Music Festival, Kaleido Festival, Found Festival among many others.

Though The Spanish Flies have their own unique signature sound, they have a vast array of artist influences including industry heavyweights The Strokes, The Stone Roses, The Libertines, Iggy Pop, Tame Impala, and several others over the years.

In January of 2017, the band released their debut EP “Ignorance Is Bliss”, which garnered positive reception throughout the music scene and digital music platforms. Their second EP “Good Things Come to Those Who Wait” was released in August 2018 and has a more matured sound with a mix of pop, rock and a latin flair that reflects the band’s influences.
